“Abbado European Young Musicians Trust’s generous support enabled me to purchase a Frédéric Chaudière violin made in 1996 at a crucial time in my musical development.

This opportunity not only enabled me to make progress with an outstanding instrument, but to this day it continues to add significant musical value to all my professional projects.

The richness and projection of my violin’s tone is continuously improving. Thanks to Abbado’s kind support I have a violin that - for the rest of my life - will be the best companion I could ever dream of. THANK YOU.”

“Thank you to the Abbado Trust and its trustees for making it possible for these young people to pursue their musical ambitions.”

A view of Worcester College, Oxford
As someone who has never been given the opportunity to learn an instrument - let alone a cello - I believe that learning the cello awards me not only a holistic experience in my student life yet also broadens my passion.
I further like learning the cello as the rich sound appeals to me as I have enjoyed many pieces which incorporate a cello. I also think it is a very dynamic instrument, and playing it is extremely worthwhile and improves my wellbeing.
I very much appreciate this opportunity from the Abbado Trust and Worcester College.

Music is at the heart of Worcester College life, and the Abbado Trust has helped make that possible.
Their support for our Student Instrumental Scheme has ensured more students than ever can learn an instrument and enjoy music, from those just beginning to those playing at the highest levels.
We are very grateful for their generosity towards the young people here, and are delighted with our partnership.

I used to play the saxophone but had to stop when the pandemic hit. I just never picked it up again afterwards. Music used to be a big part of my life and holds a lot of positive memories for me as it was something I always did with my dad who passed away.
I was hoping to start again when I started university last year but I was discouraged when I realised most people who play an instrument here are already at Grade 8 / Diploma standard.
I am looking forward to building up my confidence and playing the saxophone again, thanks to Worcester and the Abbado Trust.

“I am incredibly grateful to the Abbado European Young Musicians Trust for their generous support in helping me purchase a Greenhoe Bass Trombone.

This instrument has already made a huge difference to my playing, giving me the depth and resonance I’ve always wanted. Its warmth and responsiveness have transformed my playing, helping me to blend more seamlessly within a section while still maintaining my individual voice. The trombone’s agility and clarity have also been a huge asset to me as an improviser, giving me the freedom to explore ideas with greater ease and confidence.

Building a relationship with this trombone has been a joy, and I look forward to growing alongside it for the rest of my career. I cannot thank the Abbado Trust enough for making this possible, and I hope they continue to support young musicians at crucial moments in their journeys.”

Olivia Palmer-Baker and her bassoon.

Without the support of the Abbado Trust, it would have been impossible for me to purchase a professional standard bassoon, which was essential for my musical development.

Many other trusts often only support the purchase or loaning of string instruments, and the upfront cost of a bassoon is often prohibitively high, so I am immensely grateful to the Abbado Trust for their assistance with this purchase.

My instrument and I can look forward to the many more years of music making to come as a result. THANK YOU!
